You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. (Psalm23:5)
God provides His people and honours them even amidst adversity . He abundantly honours and provides fullness of blessings and joy .
Many of God’s people have experienced this unique way of honour from God.
The book of Esther in the Old Testament is a beau ful story of King Ahasuerus and Queen Esther . Mordecai was Queen Esther’s uncle, and they were Jews. An interes ng event about Mordecai is recorded in this book. Mordecai was an ordinary man. Haman was a topmost officer in the kingdom of King Ahasuerus. Haman was unaware that Esther was a Jew. The King had commanded that everyone should bow and pay homage to Haman. Mordecai would never bow before Haman. For this reason, Haman was angry on Mordecai and sought to kill all the Jews because of him.
Now, It so happened that once Mordecai discovered a plot to kill the King, made by two of Kings eunuchs .
Here, Haman was greatly preparing to kill all the Jews on an appointed day. Haman even made a 50 feet gallows to hang Mordecai. But that same night the King couldn’t sleep , and thereupon commanded that the book of the records of chronicles be brought to him and read. It was found that Mordecai had revealed a plot against the King and he was not honoured for this act.
Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the King’s palace to suggest that the King hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him. So Haman came in, and the King asked him, “What shall be done for the man whom the King delights to honour?” Now Haman thought in his heart, “Whom would the king delight to honour more than me?” And Haman answered the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honour, let a royal robe be brought which the King has worn, and a horse on which the King has ridden, which has a royal crest placed on its head. Then let this robe and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the King’s most noble princes, that he may array the man whom the King delights to honour. Then parade him on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him: ‘Thus shall it be done to the man whom the King delights to honour!’ ”
Then the King said to Haman, “Hurry, take the robe and the horse, as you have suggested, and do so for Mordecai, the Jew who sits within the King’s gate! Leave nothing undone of all that you have spoken.” So Haman took the robe and the horse, arrayed Mordecai and led him on horseback through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus shall it be done to the man whom the King delights to honor!”
Haman , Mordecai’s enemy had wished to kill him but God honoured Mordecai at the hands of Haman. Haman was put to shame before Mordecai. God fights our ba les in mysterious ways. He protects us. He puts our adversaries to shame and that is a sign that He has favoured us. The Lord delights in His people. He crowns the humble with victory. I am sure, God’s inten on in honouring Mordecai, was not to please Mordecai or make him feel special or to upli his faith. God just made it happen.
There are many such examples in the Bible. David, had many opposers, his family, Saul, his brothers, his sons and many. He acknowledges in Psalm 23, that God furnishes a table in the presence of ones enemies. He experienced this a ribute of God in his life. Similarly, Joseph, Moses, Daniel, experienced this amazing peculiarity of God.
Let us con nue to do the work which God has entrusted us. We may be a home-maker, an entrepreneur, a corporate employee or in any other profession, we will have rivals, haters and opposers. Instead of ge ng discouraged and depressed by the ac ons of the adversary, let us remember, God will honour us at the right me. Let us humble ourselves before the Lord (James 4:10) because God gives grace to the humble. (1 Peter 5:5) Trust in God’s ming !
