When God created man and woman, He blessed them saying “Be frui ul and mul ply, fill the earth and subdue it….” (Genesis 1:28). Star ng from the crea on, God wants the earth to be filled with people. There should be no place le on earth , where there are no humans. He also wants humans to subdue the earth and have dominion over His other crea on. This blessing surely gives rise to the concept of community (group of people).
Forma on of a community, is followed by responsibili es of individuals towards the community. These responsibili es are not a one-me event but a life long prac ce. To protect and support a community, one needs to ac vely prevent harm, pass on valuable information and offer support for those in need.
Ac vely prevent harm: Pedestrians and Bicyclists are most vulnerable of all road users. Children playing on the streets and Animals walking on the streets are equally vulnerable to harm caused by vehicles on the road. Parking vehicles in wrong places can cause hurdle to the vehicles working in emergencies. Delay due to such hurdle can be vulnerable. (Deuteronomy 22:8). Preven on is be er than cure.
Pass on valuable informa on: Now-a-days the rate of informa on transfer is expedi ous.Everyday, we forward a lot of informa on which we receive, without even confirming its reality and authen city. It is the responsibility of an open-eyed individual to pass on genuine information. (Levi cus 19:16a) . Think before you speak (forward).
Support those in need: There are many people around us, who are in need of some sort of help , some only need a few kind words. The capable and poten ally viable hold the responsibility to help others. Surely , we may not be able help every needy person but we can help those within our reach. (Deuteronomy 24:19-21)
If we put others safety before our convenience, we may avoid most of the mishaps. Let us educate our children , our community to follow the safety rules which our government has imposed. How safe is it to leave the shopping cart trolley in the parking lot or in the driveway of a mall? Is it right to blindly post on wrong informa on on the social media? We all have daily visitors, like the milkman, the maid, the vegetable vendor, the watchman, forget about knowing there needs , do we even know their names?
We are just living for ourselves. Let us find me to look around and exchange few kind words. Start with a smile , it is contagious. “Let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.” – Mother Teresa. It’s a first step toward kindness, compassion and love.
Together , if we help and support each other, this world will be a be er place to live. Let us build a be er earth for our coming genera ons. Let us leave behind a legacy of good values. Let us be true to the goodness and the life that is breathed into us.
Let us protect and support every soul that comes our way. We are placed into this world, not by our choice, so instead of complaining let us enjoy the journey !!
